Edinburgh to Linlithgow extract from diagram in Robert Stevenson's 1817 "Report relative to a line of canal upon one level between the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow to form a junction with the Forth and Clyde Canal at lock No 20." This shows his proposals for a contour canal between Edinburgh and Glasgow together with other such proposals by Hugh Baird and John Rennie. The Union Canal is Hugh Baird's proposal.
