In the mid 1960s the original Bridge 45 (Preston Road) was demolished and replaced with a culvert to enable the road to be widened to better serve new housing estates south of the canal. This view is looking east and shows the culvert being built under the bridge. It extends beyond the bridge to allow the road to be widened
